Meet the Guides

Local knowledge, genuine passion, and years on the water. Every guide on our team lives and breathes the Housatonic.

Scott Becroft

Scott Becroft

Owner & Guide

Scott is the owner of Housatonic River Guides and has been passionate about the outdoors his entire life. He previously was a registered Maine guide, hunting bear and bobcat. Scott has fished numerous saltwater destinations — catching tarpon, permit, barracuda, and more, all on a fly rod. His enthusiasm for the river is infectious, and he is a skilled oarsman. Scott is also a veteran, having served in the military as a combat medic. His knowledge of the Housatonic runs deep, having been guiding on this fishery since 2005. With any spare time Scott may have, you can find him shoeing horses or blacksmithing. He and his wife Jeanie are the driving force behind Housatonic River Guides.

Jeanie Clarke

Jeanie Clarke

Owner & Guide

Jeanie is the co-owner of Housatonic River Guides alongside her husband Scott, and a skilled angler in her own right. Her love of the outdoors and the water is lifelong — she approaches every day on the river with the same quiet attentiveness she brings to her horses, of which she is an accomplished and dedicated horsewoman. Patient, precise, and genuinely passionate about this fishery, Jeanie has a natural gift for putting people at ease on the water. Whether you're casting for the first time or chasing a personal best, her warmth and expertise make for an exceptional day on the Housatonic.

Tristan Wilgan

Tristan Wilgan

Head Guide

Tristan is head guide at Housatonic River Guides and has a deep passion for the northwest corner of Connecticut. His fishing travels have brought him to Puerto Rico, the Florida Keys, New York, and many destinations across the Northeast — including a summer working at a fly shop in West Yellowstone, MT. He holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Western CT State University and has worked in data analytics, special education, and farming. Tristan has been guiding for 7+ years and has been fly fishing for over 20 years, on the water every chance he gets.

Tom Wilcox

Tom Wilcox

Guide

Tom has been fishing and guiding for over 40 years. He previously served as a charter captain on Lake Ontario and understands the salmon and steelhead fishery of the Great Lakes deeply. Tom's wealth of knowledge and technical ability is immediately noticeable — you can find him consistently pulling the largest trout from the river. Off the water, Tom manages municipal facilities for the town of New Milford, CT. He is also a master fly tier and his humor makes for a wonderful day on the water.

Alex Ferraiuolo

Alex Ferraiuolo

Guide

Alex has been passionate about the Housatonic and its tributaries for the majority of his life, with a particular interest in small, wild trout streams throughout Connecticut. His travels have taken him fishing in Ireland, the Florida Keys, and along Rhode Island beaches. Alex holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Western CT State University and currently works as a life insurance broker. He loves throwing large streamers and often thinks outside the box — a friendly and sociable presence on the water.

Larry Wilcox

Larry Wilcox

Guide

Larry is a diverse and well rounded angler, targeting multiple species on a fly rod. He attended SweetWater Guide School in 2015, and his skills show while rowing a drift boat, or throwing a cast across the entire river. He has also been a mate on a party fishing boat, the Snowgoose 2. His travels have brought him fishing in the American west, and extensive experience in the Great Lakes region. Larry's favorite style of fishing our waters is targeting large trout on dry flies, often fishing into the dark. He is an excellent teacher and you are sure to learn something from his knowledge of historical and interesting facts.
